In 2011 Robert Canali (b.1988) graduated from York University in Toronto, Canada, where he received his BFA in photography. The Canadian born artist is currently based in San Francisco, California. Canali’s work explores the mystery and beauty of the photographic medium, a study in themes like permanence, fragility, and individual perception. His work inspires questions more than it reveals answers, as he pushes the bounds of this medium. Canali’s concepts are realized as photographs, sculptures, installations, and books. Often disparate in appearance, ranging from the cosmic, the psychedelic, and the nostalgic, his work offers a complex query about time, recollection, and the rapid advancement of modern life.
Canali has exhibited internationally, including: solo exhibition; Ghost Notes at Wallflower Photomedia Gallery in Mildura, Australia; Light/Colour/Object at Super Dakota in Brussels, Belgium; FIAC Art Fair with Gallery Dakota in Paris, France; Alternative Facts with Humble Arts Foundation, New York; Reciprocal Encounter at Bunker 2 in Toronto, Canada; and Young Collectors Club at R/SF Projects in San Francisco, California. Canali has published three artist books, most recently Visible Spectrum as part of a book series with the Spectre // Spectrum issue of Conveyor Magazine. He has been the recipient of a Regional Arts Award from the Brampton Council of Fine Arts and the Photography Honorarium Award from York University. His work resides internationally in both private and public collections.
